Saltash Live at Home Scheme

The last twelve months for the Live at Home Scheme have been challenging. The year started well with plans made by the Committee for a number of fund raising events. Unfortunately the plans had to been changed due to factors beyond our control. There are at present 22 members of the scheme and 19 volunteers.

The May Fair was extremely successful and I would like to thank the ladies who helped the cause by baking cakes for the stall and also members of the Church who came to buy the various jams, marmalades, chutney and cakes on sale. Plans were made for a themed meal to take place after May Fair at the Wesley. The Chair of the Committee, Janet Breed was to make arrangements and cook, but unfortunately, due to a hip replacement operation, this had to be put on hold.

A 50/50 Sale was due to be held during the Autumn but a venue was not available for the necessary 2 days - the first day to receive items and arrange them for sale and the second day for the sale. The Committee are hoping to try again this year.

The loss of these events, which were hoped to be well supported, meant that the monthly coffee mornings held at the Wesley on the second Saturday of the month have become our main source of income. The average coffee morning now brings in approximately £200+ and we seem to attract regular clients.

Due to an accident, the Manager of the Scheme, Chris Burns, has been away from work for 3 1/2 months which has meant that the recruiting of new members and volunteers had to be put on hold. Although unable to drive, she has returned to work and is trying to catch up, but there is a possibility that she will have to have another operation.

The Mayor of Saltash, Bob Austin, named Live at Home as his Charity for his term in office and arranged a Barn Dance at the Guildhall in November which was well attended. The Committee were asked to provide refreshments for this event, and a raffle was also held. This money, however, will not come through until the end of his term in Office.

The Rotary Club of Saltash paid for the members of the scheme to be given a Christmas card and a gift, which were much appreciated by the members..

There are a number of events for 2008 which we hope will generate funds and I have been asked to thank Saltash Baptist Church for their regular financial gift to this Scheme The members of the scheme are always extremely pleased with any planned event, usually a trip or meal , or a talk the volunteers also thoroughly enjoy their involvement and should anyone be interested in becoming a volunteer, they would find it an extremely rewarding activity.
